When you think of the typical image of the Parisienne what picture usually comes to mind? The old saying goes that if a parisienne could leave the house clad in nothing but a Burberry trench coat her life would be complete and I have to admit… it’s not untrue. The trench coat is a piece as timeless as they come. Throw an eye back to any old movie set in Paris and you’re bound to see the fiercest of femme fatales wrapped in the most elegant of fabrics. The timelessness of the trench really got me thinking about how every Parisian woman, including each one of the friend’s I’ve made in the city has their own signature piece in their wardrobe.

Today was by far my most insane moment since living in Paris. Never in a million years when I was packing my suitcase to leave my little country town in Ireland would I have imagined that I’d get the opportunity to work as a model in the fashion capital of the world.

I just uploaded the vlog of my trip home to Ireland and it honestly feels so strange to be back in Paris. I’ve spent the past week trying to settle back into life in France but I had such an amazing stay in Ireland that I couldn’t help but feel especially homesick even before I got back on the plane again.
Everything about going home just felt so surreal, being in my own bed, seeing my old bedroom in my parents house and all of the things that I left behind, not to mention the hometown that used to be apart of my everyday life. It’s crazy to think that now that I live in Paris, none of that is in my routine anymore. Going home to Ireland felt so nostalgic and so bittersweet and the time went by so quickly it almost feels like I dreamt it.

One of my first experiences of love at first sight was back in 2015 when Gucci launched their iconic Dionysus handbag as part of their fall/winter collection. Ever since, this bag has taken the fashion world by storm with influencers left and right wearing it all over Instagram as well as it having become a staple piece for so many of the fashionistas renowned for having the most coveted closets in the world.
Recently in Paris I found an online store called The Archiduchess that has a selection of bags not all too dissimilar to that of the Gucci Dionysus for a fraction of the price so today I thought I would share how I style it with you guys along with an outfit I have been loving for autumn here in the city of lights.

A Hidden Part of Paris
What is it exactly that comes to mind when you think of Paris? Before living here I used to dream about all of the clichés; champagne on the Champs-Elysées, riding a bike to the boulangerie and hanging out at Ladurée, sipping hot chocolate over a plate of macarons. But what a lot of people don’t know about Paris is that underneath the luxurious façade of the city there’s a thriving subculture of street style and grungy street art.
The 13th Arrondissement is one of my favourite places to experience this. Especially around the area of the Butte-aux-Cailles, one of the most hipster-friendly areas of the city and an unchartered territory for tourists.

A Simple Guide to Sustainable Fashion
It’s no secret that fast fashion is having a devastating impact on the planet and on the environment. We can all agree by now that mass produced fashion does more harm than good to our world. Garment workers shouldn’t have to die for making our clothes, our rivers should not be polluted and poisoned just for the sake of a cheap t-shirt and crops and water supplies in impoverished areas should not be contaminated by the fashion industry.
So much suffering, contamination and destruction goes into making the cheap clothing we see everyday on the high street only for 3.8 billion pounds of it to end up in landfill at the end of each year. With fast fashion being the most damaging industry to the environment second only to oil production it’s high time we made the call for change.
As consumers, for every penny we spend, we are casting a vote. As long as we keep pumping our money into fast fashion companies, these multi-billion dollar corporations are going to continue to exploit garment workers through child labour, slave labour and sweat shops, no matter what cost to the environment and to human life.
For today’s post I decided to share the five R’s of sustainable fashion that will hopefully help us all to reduce our consumption of fast fashion brands and strive for a more ethical closet.

My Go-To Outfit In Paris Right Now
If you guys have seen my most recent post then you’d know that lately I have been completely and utterly enamoured by the adorable illustrations of Lorraine Sorlet, an independent illustrator here in Paris.
One of my top goals for 2018 when it came to our blog was to make more of an effort to support sustainable fashion brands as well as smaller artists, creators and designers. We live in a world where huge fashion franchises have a monopoly on what we wear and where we shop. This year I wanted to rebel against that. One of my all-time favourite places to do so when I go shopping is of course Family Store UK, a Brighton-based boutique which is just an awesome place to shop for pins, patches, printed matter and apparel created by less well known labels.
