My Goals for The New Year
I can’t believe that we’re over two weeks into the new year and I still haven’t made a post talking about the ambitions that I have in 2019. Recently I was catching up on some blogposts about 2019 from Wiishu and Erika and I felt really inspired to write something similar. I love the kick I get from reading other people’s goals and talking about this always gives me the spur of motivation that I need in order to get my life together.
When the year is as fresh as it is in January there is so much potential for anything to happen which is exactly why I feel so pumped to make the most of every day. For this post, I’m going to follow the template that Erika made on her post just because I think it’s the most simple so I’ll be dividing my goals up into four separate categories; travel, career, relationships and well-being. Hopefully this post will inspire you guys to focus on yourselves and make the most out of 2019 too!
There’s a quote on Instagram that I read in 2018 which really resonated with me and it said that, “sometimes the people around you won’t understand your journey. They don’t need to. It’s not for them.”
Up until now the decisions that I’ve made in my life have been pretty bold and of course that means that a lot of the things I’ve done have given me a bit of a rep with the people around me. In 2016 I dropped out of Trinity College Dublin for good. I worked and earned enough money to come to France in 2017 without much of a plan other than to take photos of the city and to continue my blog. I wanted to cultivate my love for fashion and photography and even though I’m still figuring out how to earn my way with it full time. Nevertheless it always feels amazing to be in my favourite city while I get to pursue my dream. Even though I eventually went back to college full time in 2018, I want to make the most of the opportunities I have while I’m living in Paris. A lot can happen in a year and you never know what direction or what path life is going to send you on. That’s exactly why my goal this year is to get as much out of Parisian life as possible because you never know what the future holds or where you might be a year from now so might as well enjoy things while they’re good while doing everything possible to make life even better than it is already. So without further ado let’s get into the goals then for 2019.
2018 was a year of my life where I had so many incredible opportunities to see so many incredible new places and discover continental Europe a bit better. Moving off of the little island of Ireland and onto the mainland really enabled me to travel more places because suddenly taking a plane wasn’t my only option to explore the world anymore and there was cheaper travel by train and by bus that could take me to many different countries surrounding France. Last year I went to The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Portugal and my only regret is not getting enough photos. This year I want to take my camera with me and see as many places as possible. In 2019 my bucket list travel destinations are…
I used to go to Italy quite frequently between high school and the beginning of my college years and I had even tried my hand at learning Italian too! Honestly I never get bored of Italy, it’s such a beautiful country and every new place that there is to visit is a world away from the last. I remember when I went to Lake Como in the north for the first time, I was so mesmerised by the sight of the Alps in the distance as well as the clarity of the water and that’s not to mention the adorable little villages that surround the lake. If the scenery isn’t enough to make you travel to Italy then the endless plates of pizza and pasta definitely are. Honestly if I could go back tomorrow I would!
London is such a short journey from Paris by bus or by the Eurostar and it’s a city I definitely haven’t explored enough or had the chance to photograph yet!
Okay, this one is kind of a long shot because it is so expensive to travel to the USA from France but being able to see NYC around Christmas time in 2019 or even any time of the year at all would be a dream come true!
There is still so much of Paris that I haven’t explored and so many patisseries that I haven’t tried yet. There’s so much to see here and I’m so lucky to be here so I definitely want to do as much as possible with myself when I’m in such a beautiful city.
This section is a no-brainer for me. In 2019 what I really want to do is step up my game in everything I’ve been doing in the way of fashion, photography and social media.
My goal this year is to have over 100 posts by the end of the year. That means posting at least twice a week which is of course going to be challenging, especially when I have work and college to balance. But 2019 isn’t going to be about excuses for me. My blog is my business and my passion and I just can’t wait to have more content to share with you guys.
When I was in Ireland I had so much fun vlogging and taking you guys on my adventures with me. This year I really want to be able to preserve my memories in Paris by filming by best moments. Oh and by the way did I forget to mention that you can subscribe here?
More Brand Collaborations
It’s any bloggers dream to be able to work with different brands and to come up with creative ideas for shoots. I would love more than anything to be able to work with more fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands and if I can create some more high-fashion photos of myself in the city during the process I would feel so accomplished. In Paris the potential is limitless so my dream in 2019 is to have more opportunities to put my artistic skills to work and get some recognition for it too. (PS If you are a fashion/beauty brand you can hit me up here.)
2018 really helped me unlock my potential and to spend so much time getting to model. It honestly felt so rewarding to acknowledge that my photos were used to promote real businesses run by real people. I’m seriously so excited to be able to do that again and I really hope that I get asked to do more shoots!
This next category is kind of a personal one but when it comes to relationships in 2019 I have one main goal and it’s to have more loving and wholesome ones. When I talk about relationships here I’m not talking about romance because as we say in french je m’en tape, but I mean more so family, friends and even the relationship that I have with myself. I think that in life it’s so important to recognise who radiates their love and positive energy into your life versus those who take that away from you.
For me, I have always believed that being direct with people and telling them your problems with them straight out is so important to keep the connection going but if the situation goes above and beyond that to the point where the person in your life does more harm than good then it’s important to know when to say sayonara to your poisonous pal. I really feel like the word ‘toxic’ is overused these days to the point where even the word itself is toxic but honestly if all people are going to do is make your life harder and drain you emotionally then what’s the point in keeping them around?
Thank u, next.
2019 for me is a year that’s going to be all about cultivating positive relationships as well as nourishing the old ones because the people who love you no matter what are the ones who deserve your attention. You can be the most popular person in your social circle but if your friendships are fake or if you abandon the people who were there for you, you’ll only be isolating yourself from what truly matters. So recognise the ones that truly love you and devote your time to them. Sometimes you don’t realise how great a relationship was with a person until it’s gone.
Health & Well Being
The final category and by far the most important of all is health and well being. Your physical and mental health set the foundation for everything else in your life so it’s so important to take care of every aspect of yourself be it physical, spiritual or emotional.
At the start of this year, a close friend of mine told me that in order to succeed you need to start looking after myself in the same way your mother would and this is probably the best piece of advice I have received in a long time. Typically our mothers would never see us be neglected so why is it that we so can be so negligent with ourselves? Putting self care into perspective like this really helped open my eyes at how I should be carrying myself as a 22 year old woman in 2019.
Living in Paris, temptation is everywhere. I must pass at least thirty different cafés and boulangeries on my way into college every morning. Honestly if I could let myself eat nothing but pastries, cakes and hot chocolate everyday for the rest of my life, you know I totally would in a heartbeat. But I feel my best when I’m putting good food into my body and when I can actually put the nutrients that I’m giving it to use. In 2019 I want to cook more nutritious meals and eat more fruits and vegetables because those are the things that make me feel the best in my skin and like I can take on anything.
Stop Procrastinating and Get Shit Done
2019 is a year of making things happen. Procrastinating does nothing for your life other than cause anxiety attacks later on. Being able to accomplish small tasks one at a time makes the present feel rewarding and it means that in the long run, you can rest easy because you haven’t put everything off until the last minute. This of course is a massive challenge but one that I know deep down is going to make my life so much easier.
Wake Up Earlier
A bit of a contradiction to my first point but the boulangerie is always better in the morning. Honestly there are so many pleasures about waking up early that just aren’t the same as those you get in the afternoon, the first cup of coffee, the fresh air, the sunrise etc, all of these are aspects of life that I want to start appreciating at the start of everyday. I’m the type of person that finds it nearly impossible to wake up before noon but I know that adding even just a few extra hours to my day can boost my productivity tenfold and improve my life for the better.
So these are my dreams and ambitions for 2019. Hopefully you guys enjoyed this post and are feeling motivated by now to pursue your own goals and passions this year.
What do you want to accomplish in 2019? Are any of our goals similar? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below! That’s all from me for now and I’ll see you very soon in my next post. As always thank you guys so much for reading.
