A Touch of Cashmere + How It Feels To Be Home
Here I am, back in my seaside town in Ireland for the holidays. I’ve taken a long pause from social media over the month of December and especially over the Christmas break where my time was largely spent catching up with friends and family. It’s crazy how quickly time has flown by. It really feels like just yesterday I was still in Paris, shooting outfits and filming my vlog about going home. Since making that video and landing home, it really feels like the time I spent in Ireland, opening presents with my family under the tree and sitting all around the kitchen table, eating countless turkey and ham dinners and drinking bubbly has gone by in the blink of an eye.
Coming home to Ireland from France always makes me feel so unsure of myself and the decision that I made to move. Not because of any negative reason, but more so because I start to settle back into old habits. I’m not going to lie when I say that it only gets harder with each time that comes around again where I have to pack by bag and step back onto the plane, all to wave goodbye to Ireland and to wonder what life would be like if I had stayed here. Don’t get me wrong, I still fall in love with Paris again and again with each day that I put to use pursuing my dream, snapping photos and discovering new treasures in the city, but nothing will ever feel like home to me the way Ireland does.
For today’s look I wanted to bring the feeling of comfort from being back home into my outfit which is of course why I opted for a sweater made entirely of cashmere. I’ve been wearing a lot of knits from Hades Wool on our blog lately but honestly I can’t get enough of the softness of their sweaters and their edgy graphics make a statement that I can really vibe with. I love the pastel, powder blue colour of the one I’m wearing here and the fact that it says “anxiety” on the front really stood out to me as something so striking and unique.
The coat I’m wearing in the thumbnail is a vintage one that I found on depop. Honestly, downloading this app has been one of the best decisions I made last year because it has become one of my favourite places to shop in 2018. I’ve found so many designer gems at a fraction of the price and my wardrobe has really evolved into something very personal to me as a result.
To complete the look I paired this pink corduroy skirt (I found a similar one on romwe here) with a little pink handbag from Skinnydip London, (similar here) and these crushed velvet boots. I originally got these from one of my favourite UK fashion brands called Daisy Street but when I checked on their website recently, it seems like they don’t do shoes anymore so I hunted down a similar pair on Asos here for you guys. It’s funny how I never wore pastels in 2018 but I think that 2019 will be my year for bringing a little more colour to my ensemble.
Of course, each time I land back home, the first thing that I am dying to do (other than raid my wardrobe of course) is to head to the beach. Yes, the sea is choppy, the climate is blustery and the wind by the cliffs would almost cut you in half but this is one of the main sights unique to the island that I call home. It felt so good to be wearing one of my current favourite outfits in a place that has always been so special to me. Living in the city makes me really crave the open spaces of the countryside and the fresh sea air is something that I really miss, especially now that I live in a city as big and as busy as Paris. Being home and being able to breathe it all in again is always so refreshing, especially when I have my friends and family back in my life again.
It’s amazing the contrast between the landscape of where I live in Ireland and the landscape of Paris. So many aspects of Ireland just feels so wild and untamed in comparison. There is nothing glamorous about where I’m from but I guess that’s what gives it it’s beauty and its charm.
All in all, I’m pretty happy to be back, especially during the holidays where time with family is the most important.
I hope you are all having the most wonderful new years eve! I filmed a new vlog from one of my Christmas parties here that I can’t wait to share with you later this week.
That’s all from me for now, thank you guys so much as always for reading and have a very happy new year!
