A Hidden Part of Paris
What is it exactly that comes to mind when you think of Paris? Before living here I used to dream about all of the clichés; champagne on the Champs-Elysées, riding a bike to the boulangerie and hanging out at Ladurée, sipping hot chocolate over a plate of macarons. But what a lot of people don’t know about Paris is that underneath the luxurious façade of the city there’s a thriving subculture of street style and grungy street art.
The 13th Arrondissement is one of my favourite places to experience this. Especially around the area of the Butte-aux-Cailles, one of the most hipster-friendly areas of the city and an unchartered territory for tourists.
Taking inspiration from the artistic murals and often poetic graffiti of the area, today’s outfit is of course a little more edgy. You can never go wrong with opting for denim to spice up a black ensemble and for the longest time now I’ve been obsessed with the shape of this top from Brandy Melville. As usual I’ve thrown on an oversized cardigan to give the look a little bit of looseness and I’ve donned my favourite chain belt (also from Brandy Melville) to emphasise the 90’s vibe that I’m going for.
The boots I’m wearing are from Eram (similar) and they’re probably the oldest thing in my closet in Paris right now, however I love the unkempt vibe they give to the outfit and I think in their own strange way they really complete the look.
I usually don’t use the ‘behind the scenes’ shots in my blogposts but today I just had to share this snap with you guys. How cool is this set up? Also that backpack you’re looking at was full of photography equipment. It felt so professional to shoot this outfit!
One thing I love about Paris is that everywhere you go there are so many pretty sights to see. After starting the initial part of this shoot we stumbled across this empty skatepark so of course my friends threw me down the ramp to laugh at me as I attempted an escape. What started out as a joke actually ended up as a pretty awesome photo opportunity. I really love how the shots below turned out. It was so unexpected as well!
And that’s it for today’s slightly alternative post. I really hope you guys enjoyed it! What do you think of the area from the photos I shared? Would you go for a more grungy look too? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments below!
Stay tuned this week because I have a few beauty posts coming up as well as other Parisian outfits to share with you guys. As usual thank you guys so much for reading. Don’t forget to like the post if you enjoyed and I’ll see you very soon.
