The Edgy Side of Montmartre

Street Style at the Sacre-Coeur

It’s not often that I take the opportunity to pay a visit to one of my favourite places in Paris, but just the other day myself and my artist friend Hanna decided to take the camera with us and go exploring. The village of Montmartre really has so much character to it, not just because of the panoramic view of the entire city from its heights, or the Sacre-Coeur Basilica that stands on its highest hilltop. If you’re brave enough to wander off the beating path you’d see that the area is also full of charming little cobbled streets, quirky cafés and restaurants as well as some really inspiring street art.

For todays look I opted for a darker vibe. When I was in high school I was obsessed with hard rock and metal so I used to love opting for a more grungy aesthetic. It’s funny to see myself now and how my dress sense has completely evolved into something much more girly over the years but sometimes I can’t help myself from going back to my old signature style as I embrace my darker side. Think fishnets, smokey eyeshadow topped with heavy winged eyeliner along with a mélange of distressed textures on a dark colour palette and you’ve got yourself a grungy look.

This top with the metal zip down the middle is one of my current favourites and a piece that I stumbled upon while browsing a street market in Köln. I love the combination of khaki on black and paired with these distressed shorts from pimkie I think it creates a really interesting vibe.

My favourite thing of course about Montmartre is the street art. The graffiti is just so unique and unlike any other I’ve seen in the world.  Almost every piece has a statement to make or a question to ask and the more you wander the area the more rare it becomes to find a wall that is completely blank.

And that’s it for today’s post. If you guys are going to be in Paris soon I’d definitely recommend exploring Montmartre a little bit. The only thing about this area is that you have to be extra careful about your pockets and your handbag because despite its charm, there are a lot of thieves who hang out in this area.

Have you guys ever been to Montmartre? Let me know in the comments below. That’s all from me for now. Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you very soon in my next post.
