December Favourites

A Look at My Favourite Things of the Past Month

Hey! It’s Mew. Welcome to another monthly favourites post here on our blog.

The month of December presented me with a lot of new things and products to share with you guys so I’m super excited for this post.

As usual I have three categories; beauty, fashion and entertainment. Are you ready? Let’s start.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

The eyeshadow palette everyone has been raving about for a long time now and it’s easy to see why. At first the idea of wearing peach, orange and rusty shades on my eyes and lips made me feel a little skeptical of how it might turn out. But now hat I have tried the palette I can honestly say that these exact shades have become my all time favourites to wear.

They compliment all complexions and it’s super easy to alter between a sweet, innocent, natural look and a more defined, smoky eye depending on how you blend the shades.

A bit of diversity in a palette is always important to me and I really love how the orangey shades contrast with the grass greens, rusty reds and sparkling amethysts. The colours are just so interesting and so richly pigmented that they last all day. Plus I think that it’s an unusual alternative to the regular nudes, browns and taupes I usually pair with my green eyes. This palette makes your eyes pop in a much more dramatic way I think.

Too Faced Selfie Powders

Over the past month I found that these matifying powders are ideal for brightening up your face and adding a subtle radiance to your look while all at the same time leaving behind the perfect photo finish. If you’re a blogger as well or an avid selfie enthusiast in the way that I am, then you’re sure to fall in love with these!

The palette includes three shades, Sunrise, Totally Toasted and Moon River -which is a really cooling lavender shade that evens skin tone. The Sunrise powder acts as a warm highlight that makes your best features pop, while Totally Toasted works particularly well as a light bronzer.

Obviously these powders won’t have as strong of an affect on your skin as an instagram filter but they do work wonders for restoring life to a dull face. These are really amazing for adding some vitality to your look and also for upping that strong selfie game!

Diptyque Eau Rose Perfume

My favourite luxury fragrance to date and one that I think everyone should try at least once.

Think of a rise meadow on a fresh, breezy summer’s day and that’s exactly what this perfume is. And now that the days are going to start getting fresher and brighter, I couldn’t be more delighted to wear this everyday. I got mine in Brown Thomas but I also found it on their site here. This perfume is just so romantic. Diptyque fragrances are so sweet and natural and their floral range smells exactly like the gardens they are trying to emulate. This one is my favourite because it makes you smell just like a bouquet of roses. Such a pretty scent!

Clinique Matte Lipsticks

Matte lipsticks were huge this winter and finally I have decided to jump on the bandwagon, except with some darker shades to add a sultry flare to my look.

Honestly I really love how powerful and dramatic these lipsticks appear. The liquid matte (called Candied Apple Pop)  is a very deep burgundy red with a fun pink undertone to brighten it up a little, while the matte stick (called icon pop) that I’m wearing in the picture is a very subdued wine colour which I love because it has such a romantic, gothic edge to it.

Sweet Peach on my eyes, Clinique Candied Apple Pop on my lips

Clinique lipsticks have been among my favourites for a while now. They’re super long lasting and they glide on so smoothly. For me that’s everything I could want in my makeup.

Instax Camera

Now onto entertainment!

I’ve been having a lot of fun lately snapping photos with my new instax mini.

Over the Christmas break it was amazing having the opportunity to spend so much quality time with my close friends and family, so preserving the memories of our time together by taking little polaroids was not only really sweet, but also really exciting, especially when it came to seeing how they would turn out!

One of my new year’s resolutions for 2017 was to get more organised, which is exactly why I got this weekly planner from Accessorize and embroidered notebook to go with it! (similar)

To be more productive, I write down a to-do list or some goals for each day of the week on the planner. It’s super helpful when it comes to blogging and college assignments because it means I have a clear idea of what I need to do everyday. I tend to procrastinate a lot so this has been a bit of a miracle for me!

I found this in the store and they still had loads of them left, but online I could only find this one. ^_^

As for the notebook, I always need to have a nice notebook to write down ideas and plan blogposts. This handmade one was just so pretty and it really stood out to me as being really special for doing just that. I can’t wait to see the ideas I’ll write in it for 2017!

Louis Vuitton Bag

This month’s fashion favourite is this Louis Vuitton pochette that I got for Christmas.

In 2016 I took a break from college to study a course in fashion for the year and now that I nearly have my certificate, this was given to me as a little reward for taking what felt like a huge risk at the time and following my heart to accomplish something I knew I was really passionate about.

This particular bag is from an old limited edition collection with a Japanese manga artist and designer called Takashi Murakami. His trademark is pop art, anime characters and kawaii little cherry blossoms symbolic of his Japanese heritage.

I just think it’s so cool that a high end brand such as Louis Vuitton appreciates anime enough to have it printed on one of its handbags. This collection is so precious to me because it combines two things I really love; a cute, kawaii Japanese aesthetic with high end luxury fashion and I think that’s really special.

Inside Vogue

The final fashion favourite that I have been loving all throughout December and January is a book written by Alexandra Schulman, the editor in chief of British Vogue.

Having recently developed a serious passion for the world of fashion journalism and media, this real life account of what it’s really like to work in the industry was obviously right up my street. Hearing her voice her feelings on her busy life, between attending some of the world’s most anticipated runway shows, meeting all of the big names in fashion from Stella McCartney to Victoria Beckham, to putting the perfect magazine together each month is just so fascinating and enchanting. It almost sounds unreal.

Reading this is really light and leisurely because it’s written a lot like a diary. If you have any interest in fashion at all I would definitely recommend you read this because it offers some really powerful insights into the inner workings of the industry.

So these were all of my favourite things this past month. Sorry this was such a long post! As usual, links for almost everything are embedded in the text above. Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you very soon in my next post.

What were your favourite things this month? I’d love to hear all about them in the comments below!
